The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hull type and antifouling coatings of marine vessels on macroalgae and mussel Mytilaster lineatus settlement (Chaboksar, 2019-2020) and select the best hull type and coating. In total, 14 treatments were used in 3 replications: Fiberglass treatments (1 or Control: colorless, 2: Pamchal, 3: Ronas, 4: Rangin Zareh, 5: Eskeleh, 6: Bajak, 7: Hempel) and Steel treatments (8 or Control: colorless, 9: Pamchal, 10: Ronas, 11: Rangin Zareh, 12: Eskeleh, 13: Bajak, 14: Hempel). After installation of plates, physicochemical factors of water and related factors were measured during the period and at the end of the period, respectively. Treatments were analyzed using T-test test for comparison of plates, One-way analysis of variance test for comparison of coatings and Tukey test for two by two comparison of coatings. The presence of algae on fiberglass and steel plates and mussel on steel plates showed a significant difference (P<0.05) between different coatings in most studied factors but the presence of mussel on fiberglass plates didnot show any significant difference (P>0.05). The presence of algae in Hempel treatment and mussel in Control, Ronas and Hempel treatments showed a significant difference (P<0.05) between different plates in most studied factors but the presence of algae in Control, Pamchal, Ronas, Rangin Zareh, Eskeleh and Bajak treatments and mussel in Pamchal, Rangin Zareh, Eskeleh and Bajak treatments didnot show any significant difference (P>0.05). The highest amount of presence of algae and mussels was in the control treatment of different plates. Generally, the coatings prevented algae and mussel on fiberglass plates and there were only little algae in control treatment. Deterrent materials of coatings were likely to prevent the settlement. Also, on steel plates, algae and mussel were more evident in control treatment, the dark color in control treatment and lack of coatings probably caused more settlement. This effect can be influenced by chemicals of coatings. Furthermore, in different plates, the amount of algae and mussel settlement was higher on steel plates which can be due to hardness and microtextures. |
