The use of biological indicators of pollution to evaluate the effects of pollutants on the environment is of special importance. Herbicides are considered one of the most widely used toxicant in the agricultural sector worldwide. Therefore, in this research, the biological index of contamination of Zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos was used to compare the toxicity of five widely used agricultural herbicides: atrazine, paraquat, 2.4-D, glyphosate, and trifluralin. For this purpose, the OECD method and a static system were employed to determine the acute toxicity of these toxins in zebrafish eggs. In the case of each poison, 6-8 increasing concentrations were considered, and 10 zebra eggs were added to each concentration (all experiments were performed in three repetitions), with losses recorded daily up to 48 hours. The results were analyzed using Probit software. Finally, LC50 was determined after 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours for each toxin separately for zebrafish eggs. The maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) of each poison was also calculated. The 48-hour LC50 for the five toxins, atrazine, 2.4-D, trifluralin, paraquat, and glyphosate in zebrafish eggs were 51.4, 39, 12.5, 1.7, and 213.7, respectively. Increasing the concentration of these toxins resulted in higher loss of zebrafish embryo, while increasing the duration of exposure to the poisons had no effect on the increase in loss of zebrafish eggs. According to the current research, among the five herbicides, widely used in agriculture and aquaculture, glyphosate has the least toxicity in zebrafish eggs, while paraquat and trifluralin cause the most toxicity. Since the effective concentration of these poisons is almost similar in agriculture, it is recommended to use glyphosate followed by atrazine and tofordi in agriculture and aquaculture.
