This research was conducted in order to investigate antibacterial and antifungal activity of Haliclona caerulea sponge extracts. Several colonies of sponge were collected by divers at a depth of 15 to 20 meters in Lavan and Larak islands in the Persian Gulf in winter (Mid of March 2016) and summer (Mid of August 2017), and extraction was done using organic solvents chloroform and methanol using standard methods. Then, the antifungal and antibacterial activity of the whole extracts, respectively, using microdilution broth method on Candida albicans ATcc10231 and Aspergillus fumigatus pTCC25009 and broth method on Escherichia coli ATCC 1 15224, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Salmonella typhi PTCC 1609, Bacillus cereus ATCC 1715, Staphylococcusaureus aureus ATCC 1764 and Bacillus subtilis spizizeni PTCC 1715 were tested and compared and then their performance was determined based on ANOVA analysis and t-test. Based on the results of statistical analysis, the antibacterial and antifungal performance of chloroform-methanolic extracts in winter and summer in Lavan and Larak island in different concentrations had a significant level with each other (P<0.05) and it was determined that the most effective performance the antibacterial effect of Larak and Lavan island winter extract was on B.cereus and B.subtilis bacteria. Also, the most effective antifungal activity on C.albicans yeast was determined from the extract of summer Larak and winter Lavan. The results of this research showed that a sample of Haliclona caerulea sponge related to two different ecological regions of Lavan and Larak islands, in winter and summer, has different biological properties according to its different ecological bioregion and different seasons. They show, also with the ability of antifungal and antibacterial effect and with additional clinical studies, it is possible to make antifungal and antibacterial drugs from this type of sponge.
